If you’re about to get your eyeliner tattooed on, you have every right to be a little (or a lot) nervous. First of all, when you tattoo your eyeliner on, those needles are coming way too close to your eyes! Secondly, we’ve all seen tattoos that fade from black to green and thats probably about the last look you are going for. So you have every right to be nervous. But is it all in your head?
Yes and no. We’ll start with the bad news- there’s no avoiding the needle. If you want to have your eyeliner permanently tattooed on, that needle is getting close to your eye. If you have a crazy fear of needles, please do not get your eyeliner tattooed on. All it takes is one wrong move for the needle to end up from your lid into your eye – and none of us want to see that happen. So if your squeemish, you might just have to suck up doing your own eyeliner everyday.
Now for the good news: Yes, needles hurt, but there is numbing cream that can help to reduce the pain. Most people say they only feel a minor discomfort throughout the procedure. Its really more psychologically terrifying than it actually is painful.
So you can handle a tattoo staring back at you in the eye, what happens next? Unlike microblading of the eyebrows which can take weeks to fully heal, permanent eyeliner actually requires minimal downtime. While you may notice some swelling or redness immediately following the procedure, but this usually dissipates after a day or two.
So is it terrifying? Yes. Is it really as bad as it seems? No.
Oh, and we should probably address that concern that we left you lingering on – you know, the one about your eyeliner turning green? Let this concern go. Cosmetic pigments are not inserted as deeply into the skin as regular tattoos, so you don’t need to worry about them changing from black to green!
The verdict? As long as you can get out of your own head, you will breeze through the permanent eyeliner process.
